Haiku Time

If you recall, when R was in 3rd grade, he studied haikus and we had a little poetry slam here http://keepingupwiththesmiths.blogspot.com/2007/04/spring-haiku.html on my blog. Well, T is at that point in his education too. Here is his haiku:

The Sea

Dolphins jump and play

Sting Rays gracefully glide by

Pretty coral reefs

So, your assignment is to write a haiku in my comments section. Go for it. It's fun !

I'm not so hot at this . . . it never comes out pretty! But here you are.

So green are the trees
Our spring is finally here
But wait, it's too hot!

This haiku stuff has me in a tizzy.
I just don’t get it, I guess.
It always comes out rhyming,
Even though I do my best.

P.S. Thanks for the link back to the 2007 haiku blog post. I enjoyed another chuckle at your haiku attempt!

Good Job ladies! Dad, your poem is pretty good, but not a Haiku. I can't wait to get home and show these to T. He's so funny to watch 'cause he counts each syllable on by tapping his fingers to make sure that you did it right.

When you take these home to T, be sure he knows that Papa knows his attempt is a poem and not a haiku . . . that he did this in jest!

Here's one of you dad's that I saved from last year, just so you know he really does get it.

Hear the cricket Sing?
He plays his one evening song
Over and over

We had a brief stint with daily haikus last year. Didn't last through the Spring! (That sounds almost Haiku-like.)

Some more, saved from last year, this one is A. Patty's

light sprinkles dropping
starry skies twinkling above
my bed is calling

Another of your dad's:

tomato plants burst
from their damp seedling soil nest
showing their new leaves

Hard to pick out one of your mom's. and hers are funny! Ya gotta love this one:

It's hot sitting here
The air is still and yucky
Gotta do the wash

We started getting better and better. We should not have quit. Okay, my last one, this one mine:

The three-quarter moon
Beaming in a blurry glow
Watching over us

I've been thinking about this one off and on for several days, mind you just a couple minutes each day. Now, I've found the time to actually send it. I really like Tommy's a lot.

The Gaining of Years

Many things have passed
Now, we can choose, play, relax
Sleep late, sip coffee
